Explore the Infinite through the Eyes of the Prophets, the Sages, and the Ramchal
What does the Torah truly teach about the nature of God? How can the finite human mind begin to grasp the Infinite? This foundational course delves into the core theology of the Jewish Bible through the profound lens of Jewish mysticism, using the teachings of the Ramchal—one of the greatest systematic thinkers in Kabbalistic theology—as our primary guide.
Centered on the classic text Da’at Tevunot (“The Knowing Heart”) by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, this class explores the nature of God’s unity (achdut), divine will (ratzon haElyon), the relationship between Creator and creation, and the structure of divine providence (hashgachah). Students will gain clarity on key theological principles such as:
The oneness of God and how this differs from simple monotheism
The paradox of divine concealment and revelation
The purpose of creation and the manifestation of divine attributes
The sefirot—not as parts of God, but as vessels of divine interaction with the world
Free will, evil, and the divine plan for ultimate rectification (tikkun)
Unlike abstract philosophical theology, the Ramchal offers a highly structured, spiritually transformative framework grounded in Scripture and prophetic tradition. This class will synthesize verses from the Torah, Prophets, and Writings with rabbinic and kabbalistic interpretations to unveil a coherent, richly layered understanding of the Divine.
Whether you are a beginner in Jewish mysticism or an advanced student of theology, this course offers a clear, rational, and spiritually deep approach to one of the most essential subjects of Jewish thought: the true nature of God.
